Cressida Cowell cresceu entre Londres, Inglaterra, e uma pequena ilha desabitada na Escócia, na qual estava convencida de que existiam dragões. Desde então que é fascinada por eles.
Tem uma licenciatura em Literatura Inglesa e outra em Design Gráfico, além de um mestrado em lustração Narrativa. Escreveu e desenhou doze livros da coleção Como Treinares o Teu Dragão, que está publicada em mais de trinta idiomas e que teve uma adaptação ao cinema. E igualmente autora de Caminhos Cruzados para Qualquer Lado, também publicado pela Quiuí.
Vive em Londres com o marido e três filhos.
