Chris Grimley nació en Londres, Reino Unido. Se graduó en diseño interior por la Ryerson Polytechnic University de Toronto, Ontario, y es Master en Arquitectura por la University of British Columbia. Trabajó en Machado and Silvetti Associates de 2000 a 2006, donde participó como arquitecto senior en la reforma del J. Paul Getty Museum of Antiquities, así como también en una serie de proyectos de museos, como el Museum of Natural History de Los Ángeles y el Motown Center en Detroit.

Fue arquitecto jefe de propuestas urbanísticas para Buenos Aires, Nueva York, Vancouver y Seúl. En la actualidad es uno de los socios de over, under, un despacho interdisciplinario de diseño con sede en Boston. Ha contribuido al desarrollo del programa de comunicación digital de la Northeastern University y ha sido miembro de tribunal de proyectos en diversas escuelas, como la Rhode Island School of Design y la University of British Columbia.
