O seu primeiro romance, Choir Boy, venceu o Lambda Literary Award (2006), e a novela Six Months, Three Days venceu o Hugo Award (2013), tendo sido proposta para uma adaptação televisiva.

Amplamente elogiado e premiado, Os Pássaros no Fim do Mundo é o primeiro romance da autora a ser publicado em Portugal.
