Charles Cumming nasceu na Escócia em 1971. Frequentou o Eton College e licenciou-se em Literatura Inglesa pela Universidade de Edimburgo. Em 1995, foi recrutado pelo MI6, e desde então dedica-se à escrita de livros de espionagem. A sua obra está já traduzida para catorze línguas, e o Observer descreve-o como «o melhor da nova geração de escritores de espionagem britânicos que seguem a tradição de John le Carré ou Len Deighton».
