Cecília Barreira nasceu em Lisboa e quase sempre residiu na capital. Fez a licenciatura em História na FLL e entrou como assistente estagiária na NOVA-FCSH no decorrer dos anos 80. Nesta instituição fez os graus académicos normais de um professor universitário. Em 1984 publicou o primeiro livro de poesia pela Europress, Lua Lenta. E muitos outros livros se seguiram. Escreve ensaios académicos em livro e em revistas online. Em janeiro de 2021 ousou dar à luz o primeiro livro de short stories (pela Cordão de Leitura). Há muito que sentia essa pulsão. E vive essa bipolaridade: entre a prosa e a poesia. Depois da edição de Não Me Amasses, reincide numa nova forma de fazer poético com Partíssemos, também pela Glaciar.
