Catarina Barreira de Sousa nasceu em Albi, no ano de 1977. Viveu em Bordéus, Chaves, Porto e Coimbra, onde estudou Línguas e Literaturas Modernas (Português e Francês) e Linguística Geral. Para além do ensino, dedicou-se à elaboração de gramáticas escolares e à fotografia. Atualmente vive em Lausana, onde leciona português ao serviço do Instituto Camões. Nesta cidade, retomou estudos de espanhol, tendo nesse âmbito trabalhado sobre a obra de Gil Vicente. É também professora de português no departamento ibero-americano da Universidade de Fribourg, onde iniciou investigação sobre literatura de viagem. Paralelamente, integrou dois projetos de teatro amador. Alice no País de Gil Vicente é o seu primeiro romance.
