Foi consultor de muitas organizações nos sectores público e privado.
Goleman e Cherniss são membros fundadores do Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations (CREIO) e foram seus copresidentes durante vinte e cinco anos. Cherniss também foi diretor do CREIO.
