Carlota de Barros

Carlota de Barros Fermino Areal Alves was born on the island of Fogo, in Cape Verde, on January 24, 1942.
He left for Mozambique in 1950 with his family to join his father, where he lived for 7 years, returning to Lisbon in 1957.
She holds a degree in Germanic Philology from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon.
In 1967, already married, she left Angola, where she had stayed with her husband for 8 months, for Cape Verde.
She was a teacher at the Externato de S. Nicolau, which she helped her husband, Abílio José Areal Alves, to found, and in S. Vicente, at the Liceu Gil Eanes.
In 1974 he returned to Lisbon, where he taught in various high schools, secondary schools and preparatory schools, until 2003, the year he retired.
He has published the following books of poetry: The Tenderness of Water; My Soul Runs in Silence, Dream Dreamed (Portuguese and trilingual versions: Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole, and English) and In the Stone of Time.
She is the author of the book of short stories. The Lilies of Memory, and of the novels Luna – The Night of Every Day and Childhood Sun, published by Rosa de Porcelana Editora.
He is a member of the Cape Verdean Academy of Letters, the Cape Verdean Society of Authors, the Portuguese Society of Authors, and the Circle of Mozambican Writers of the Diaspora.
