Carlos Branco
A Colonel of Infantry in the National Republican Guard, he currently serves as a military judge in the Criminal Courts of Lisbon. Throughout his military career spanning over thirty years, he served in various units and establishments of the Army and the GNR, commanding the Aljustrel Territorial Section as a Captain, the Portalegre Territorial Group as a Major, and the Faro Territorial Group as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was a professor at the Military Academy and the Institute of Higher Military Studies, and director of instruction at the Guard's Practical School. As a staff officer, he served in the 3rd division of the General Command and in the office of the General Commander of the GNR. He participated in cooperation missions with the PALOP (Portuguese-speaking African Countries) and represented the GNR in Brussels within the framework of the Schengen Agreements and the EU. He was part of the organizing committee and the first governing bodies of the Military Academy's Research Center (CINAMIL) and was a member of the working group for the drafting of the GNR Operations Manual. He holds a law degree from the Faculty of Law of Lisbon and a postgraduate degree in peace and war studies from the Autonomous University of Lisbon. His service record includes numerous commendations and decorations, notably the Medal for Distinguished Service (silver grade) and two Military Merit Medals (1st and 3rd classes).
