Carlo Petrini, jornalista italiano, fundou o movimento internacional Slow Food em 1986, do qual é presidente até hoje, e inspirou o movimento Terra Madre. Em 2004, a revista TIME nomeou-o «Herói Europeu dos Nossos Tempos» na categoria Inovação. Em janeiro de 2008, foi o único italiano incluído na lista das «50 Pessoas que Provavelmente Salvarão o Mundo», publicada pelo jornal The Guardian. Em 18 de setembro de 2013, Carlo Petrini recebeu o Prémio Campeão da Terra, outorgado pelo Programa Ambiental das Nações Unidas, a maior homenagem na área ambiental atribuída pelas Nações Unidas. Criou a Universidade de Ciência Gastronómica, publicou vários livros e fundou a editora Slow Food. O Futuro da Terra será publicado igualmente em Espanha, França, Alemanha, Polónia, Roménia, Eslovénia, Letónia, Brasil e Coreia do Sul.
