Cândida Pinto é jornalista e iniciou a sua vida profissional na rádio, na RDP Antena 1 e posteriormente na TSF.
Optou depois pela televisão, a RTP. Fez parte do grupo fundador da primeira televisão privada, a SIC, onde foi repórter, editora de Internacional e coordenadora do programa Grande Reportagem. Foi diretora da SIC Notícias e diretora-adjunta do Expresso. Desenvolveu trabalho de reportagem em Angola, Afeganistão, Arábia Saudita, Brasil, Iraque, Kosovo, EUA, Timor-Leste, Líbia, Guiné-Bissau, Moçambique, Rússia, Geórgia, Líbano, Haiti, Paquistão, Ucrânia, Venezuela. No Polo Norte e na Antártida.
Recebeu vários prémios nacionais e internacionais. A Grande Reportagem «Snu» foi reconhecida com o Grande Prémio Gazeta 2005.
Regressou à RTP em novembro de 2018 para desempenhar as funções de diretora-geral de informação. Em 2024 passou a ser a correspondente do canal público de televisão em Washington D.C.
