C. J Sansom nasceu em 1952 e licenciou-se na Universidade de Birmingham, onde fez também um doutoramento em História. Exerceu advocacia durante algum tempo, até que decidiu dedicar-se à escrita a tempo inteiro.
Com a série Shardlake conheceu um retumbante sucesso internacional, estando já publicados em Portugal os volumes Dissolução, Fogo Negro, Soberano e Revelação (Porto Editora, 2010).
Inverno em Madrid, também publicado pela Porto Editora, é um thriller de espionagem escrito fora da série Shardlake.
