Bina Achoca nasceu em 1975, em Maputo. A partir dos 10 anos, começou a ajudar os pais na cozinha do templo de Rama, em Salamanga, a 60 km da capital de Moçambique. Casou-se aos 18 com Achoca Ramgi, e é nessa altura que Bina vem para Portugal. Sempre trabalhou em casa. Com três filhos, a necessidade juntou-se ao engenho de fazer refeições que agradem a todos. Há anos que os amigos elogiam as suas chamuças como «as melhores de Lisboa». Conheceu a antropóloga Rita Ávila Cachado em 2000 e, desde então, tornaram-se amigas. O livro Coentros & Garam Masala nasceu de muitas tardes de conversa.
