Bento Murteira, Licenciado em Finanças pelo ISCEF (1942–1946). Doutor em Finanças pela Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (1953) com uma tese sobre «Algumas propriedades dos processos auto-regressivos». Docente desde 1947 da cadeira de Estatística do atual ISEG, foi jubilado em 1994 na categoria de Professor Catedrático. No período de 1992–1999 lecionou Estatística no Mestrado do ISEGI da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Na década de 90 colaborou também na Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa. Tem uma extensa lista de publicações nas áreas de estatística, econometria e investigação operacional.
