Audre Lorde
Audre Lorde (1934-1992), a major figure in Black feminism, was an eminent American poet and thinker. A precursor of intersectional theory and decolonial critique, she affirmed her multifaceted identity, publicly presenting herself as "a Black woman, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet." She dedicated her life to combating racism, sexism, homophobia, and invisibility. A librarian and English teacher, she forged significant alliances and worked actively, leaving us with some of the most important works for the development of contemporary feminist theory. She was awarded honorary doctorates from several universities and was also Poet Laureate of the State of New York between 1991 and 1993. In 2020, she was posthumously honored, appearing in the... American Poets Corner from the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York.
