Eleito Académico de Mérito da «Academia Portuguesa da História». Estudou Filosofia em Espanha (1963-1965); Teologia em Roma, de 1965 a 1973: Licenciaturas Canónicas em Teologia Dogmática, na Faculdade Pontifícia "Teresianum", e em Ciências Bíblicas, no Pontifício Instituto Bíblico. Doutoramento em Teologia Bíblica, na Universidade Gregoriana, Roma, 1965.
