Antoine Galland
Antoine Galland (1646-1715) was an orientalist, antiquarian, collector, and translator of ancient manuscripts. Galland became known for his translation of One Thousand and One Nights, which earned him immortality, also helping him to preserve many other rare manuscripts and antiquities that would otherwise have been lost. His translation is more of a free version of the manuscripts he used, adapting the final text to the taste and morals of the French public.
