Annie Dillard nasceu em 1945 na Pensilvânia. Aclamada poeta, romancista e ensaísta, é também autora de vários livros de não-ficção, entre os quais o premiado Peregrinação em Tinker Creek (1974) e Ensinar uma Pedra a Falar (1982), publicados na Antígona. Pertence à Academia Americana de Artes e Letras e, em 2014, pelo aprofundamento da compreensão da experiência humana revelado nas suas obras, recebeu a Medalha Nacional de Humanidades, o maior galardão cultural do seu país.
