Annette Herfkens
Annette Herfkens is the sole survivor of a 1992 plane crash in Vietnam. Sudden turbulence and the subsequent crash of the aircraft took the life of her fiancé, Willem van der Pas. He was her best friend, college sweetheart, and soulmate. Annette spent eight days alone in the jungle among the dead, with only rainwater to sustain her. He was born in Venezuela to Dutch parents. She was raised in the Netherlands. After an internship in Santiago, Chile, she became an executive trainee at ING Bank, which sent her to New York and London. She then moved to Banco Santander in Madrid. She was promoted to director and seven years later sent to New York, where she currently lives with her family.
