Anna Gavalda nasceu em Boulogne-Billancourt, França, em 1970. Licenciada em Literatura Contemporânea, foi professora de francês e colaboradora em várias publicações antes de se dedicar inteiramente à escrita.
A sua estreia literária deu-se com Queria Ter Alguém à Minha Espera num Sítio Qualquer, que rapidamente se tornou um fenómeno de vendas em França, conquistando o Prémio RTL Lire e ultrapassando um milhão de exemplares vendidos. O sucesso foi tal, que a obra seria traduzida para dezenas de idiomas, projetando a autora para o panorama internacional.
