Ángela Becerra nasceu em Cali, Colômbia, onde estudou Comunicação Visual e Desenho Publicitário. Foi redactora e directora criativa de agências publicitárias de Cali e Bogotá até 1998. Nesse ano veio para Barcelona, onde foi, durante 13 anos, vice-presidente criativa de uma das agências mais importantes de Espanha.
Em 2000, abandona a carreira publicitária, distinguida com vários prémios internacionais, para viver em exclusivo a sua paixão: a escrita literária. No ano seguinte publica uma selecção de poemas, Alma Abierta. Segue-se o romance, De los amores negados (2004), que obteve o Prémio Latin Literary Award, da Feira do Livro de Chicago, tendo sido distinguido pela crítica e pelos leitores tanto em Espanha como na América Latina. A sua obra seguinte, O Penúltimo Sonho, recebeu o Prémio Azorín e foi considerada o melhor romance colombiano de 2005, pela Associação de Livreiros da Colômbia.
