Andrew Read

Professor emérito de Genética Humana na Universidade de Manchester, Reino Unido, e membro da Academia de Ciências Médicas. Andrew tem se preocupado particularmente em tornar os benefícios da tecnologia do DNA disponíveis para as pessoas com problemas genéticos. Ele estabeleceu um dos primeiros laboratórios de diagnóstico baseado em DNA no Reino Unido há mais de 20 anos (este é hoje um dos dois Laboratórios Nacionais de Referência em Genética). Foi fundador presidente da Sociedade Britânica de Genética Humana, o principal órgão profissional nesta área. A sua própria pesquisa consiste na patologia molecular de várias síndromes hereditárias, especialmente a surdez hereditária.
Em 2007 recebeu o Prémio da Sociedade Europeia de Educação em Genética Humana.
