Andreas Huyssen é professor de Alemão e de Literatura Comparada na Universidade de Columbia, em Nova Iorque, onde fundou e dirigiu o Centre for Comparative Literature and Society (1998-2003), tendo sido também diretor do Departamento de Línguas Germânicas (1986-1992; 2005-2008). Vencedor do Prémio Mark van Doren (2005), atribuído pela Universidade de Columbia aos que demonstram "espírito humanitário, devoção à verdade e liderança inspiradora", é também um dos diretores-fundadores da revista New German Critique (1974-). Andreas Huyssen pertence, desde 2009, ao Conselho Consultivo/Editorial da revista do CECC, Comunicação & Cultura.
