Ana Vicente nasceu em 1943. Licenciou-se em Letras pela Universidade de Lisboa. Entre muitas outras actividades, trabalhou na Comissão para a Igualdade e para os Direitos das Mulheres, um departamento do Estado, de que também foi presidente (1992-1996). É membro de várias ONG, incluindo o Movimento Internacional «Nós Somos Igreja». É autora de quinze livros (questões de género, história, biografia, infantil), entre os quais uma história da sua família, Arcádia - Notícia de uma Família Anglo-Portuguesa. Pertence à quinta geração de mulheres da sua família que se dedicaram à escrita. É casada, mãe de dois filhos e avó de quatro netos.
