Alison Benjamin é editora no jornal The Guardian. Juntamente com Brian McCallum, fundaram a Urban Bees, empresa que pratica a apicultura em ambiente urbano, mantendo colmeias em terraços, gerindo «hotéis» para abelhas solitárias e indicando o caminho para a manutenção de jardins amigos destes insetos.
Tudo isto ao mesmo tempo que sensibilizam a opinião pública para a importância das abelhas no mundo citadino. Autores de vários livros sobre abelhas, Alison e Brian são casados, vivem em Hackney, no leste de Londres, e acreditam que as abelhas são seres infinitamente fascinantes.
