Dorothy L. Sayers

Dorothy L. Sayers nasceu em Oxford, no Reino Unido, a 13 de julho de 1893. Foi uma das primeiras mulheres a licenciar-se pela Universidade de Oxford, em 1915, e em 1921 ingressou numa agência de publicidade, onde foi copywriter durante quase uma década. O seu interesse pela literatura de mistério iniciou-se por esta altura, tendo publicado Whose Body?, o seu primeiro romance policial, em 1923, desde logo protagonizado por Lord Peter Wimsey, detetive amador aristocrata que se tornou um dos mais famosos heróis do policial em todo o mundo. A aclamação, quer pela crítica quer pelos leitores, foi imediata, e ao longo de quase vinte anos Sayers publicou onze romances e cinco coletâneas de contos centrados nesta personagem. Em 1930, juntamente com autores como Agatha Christie, Anthony Berkeley ou G. K. Chesterton, fundou o Detection Club, clube de escritores de histórias policiais que ainda hoje se mantém. Considerada uma das maiores autoras da literatura policial do século XX, Sayers foi também professora, poeta, ensaísta, dramaturga e tradutora. Faleceu a 17 de dezembro de 1957.
