Manly P. Hall (1901-1990) fundou a Sociedade de Pesquisa Filosófica em 1934, uma organização sem fins lucrativos dedicada à disseminação de conhecimentos úteis nos campos da filosofia, religião comparada e psicologia. Na sua longa carreira, abrangendo mais de setenta anos de atividade pública dinâmica, Hall deu mais de oito mil palestras nos Estados Unidos e no exterior, escreveu mais de cento e cinquenta livros e ensaios, e inúmeros artigos para revistas.

É sobretudo conhecido pelo seu trabalho «Os Ensinamentos Secretos de Todos os Tempos».
