Selma Lagerlöf

PRÉMIO NOBEL DA LITERATURA 1909

Selma Lagerlöf nasceu a 20 de novembro de 1858, em Mårbacka, na província sueca de Värmland, e aí viria a falecer a 16 de março de 1940. Com uma obra profundamente inspirada nas histórias de encantar e lendas populares do seu país, tornou-se, em 1909, a primeira mulher a ser galardoada com o Prémio Nobel de Literatura e em 1914 foi nomeada membro da Academia Sueca. É autora de títulos como A Saga de Gösta Berling (1891), Os Milagres do Anticristo (1897) e O Tesouro (1904). A sua obra mais famosa, A Maravilhosa Viagem de Nils Holgersson através da Suécia (1906-1907), seria adotada em todas as escolas suecas e traduzida para mais de cinquenta línguas.
