Emily Brontë

Emily Jane Brontë nasceu a 30 de julho de 1818, em Thornton, no Yorkshire, e faleceu em Haworth, vítima de tuberculose, a 19 de Dezembro de 1848, com apenas 30 anos. Filha de Patrick Brontë, nomeado pároco vitalício em Haworth, foi criada com os seus irmãos Charlotte, Anne e Patrick Branwell pela tia, Elizabeth Branwell. A família constituía uma sociedade fechada e isolada, e os quatro irmãos sentem desde a infância motivação para o estudo e para a composição literária. Escreveram contos, histórias fantásticas, poemas, jornais, folhetins e editaram uma revista mensal. Emily Brontë foi a autora do ciclo de Gondal, cuja pátria imaginária inspirou alguns dos seus poemas mais arrebatados.
