ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kenneth Grahame

Kenneth Grahame was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1859. When he was four years old, he moved with his family to a coastal village, Inverary. In his own words, his life and new home made him feel happy and secure. However, a year later, everything would change: his mother would die and his father would leave him, along with his three siblings, in charge of his maternal grandmother, who would raise them in an idyllic place, on the banks of the River Thames, in the south of England. Grahame was unable to fulfil his wish to study at Oxford University. Instead, he became an employee of the Bank of England, reconciling his profession with the activity that interested him most: writing. His stories were published in several periodicals and his name gained fame through the works The Golden Age, Dream Days and, definitely, The Wind in the Willows, first published in 1908. Grahame died in July 1932.
