ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Carl Sagan
Carl Sagan (1934-1996) was a professor of Astronomy and Space Sciences and director of the Laboratory for Planetary Studies at Cornell University; he was also a visiting scientist at Jet Propulsion Laboratory and in California Institute of Technology and co-founder and president of Planetary Society, the most important in the world dedicated to space issues.
Throughout his life, he received numerous awards (Award Pulitzer, numerous NASA medals, the Prize Apollothe Prize Masursky and the National Academy of Sciences' Public Welfare Medal). An asteroid, 2709, was named after him. In awarding him its highest prize, the National Academy of Sciences observed: 'No one has ever managed to convey the wonder, the excitement, and the joy of science so well as Carl Sagan... His ability to capture the attention of millions of people and to explain complex concepts in an accessible way is a magnificent achievement.'
