After Liv's Viking village raids Iona Abbey in Scotland in 795 A.D., Liv and Erik are afflicted with a curse of the heart that gives them immortality. With the help of a monk sworn to guide them, they must find ancient relics to break the curse.

But this living curse doesn't want to die. It lingers on, and Liv soon discovers that killing Erik over and over to keep him from stopping her from getting the relics isn't the real problem. The matters of the heart make living without each other more painful than dying.
