Stanislaw Lem
Stanislaw Lem (1921-2006) é um dos mais traduzidos e destacados autores polacos. Nos anos 40, estudou medicina e psicologia em Lviv e em Cracóvia. Foi forçado a obter documentos falsos – que o salvaram das câmaras de gás de Belzec – e, como mecânico, dedicou-se a sabotar carros alemães durante a invasão nazi. Publicou Solaris (1961), A Voz do Dono (1968) e livros com um humor inimitável, como Memórias Encontradas numa Banheira (1961) e Congresso Futurológico (1971). Em 1976, foi expulso da Associação Americana de Escritores de Ficção Científica, por ter criticado a qualidade da produção norte-americana no género. Legou-nos uma obra profundamente filosófica, norteada pela reflexão sobre as limitações humanas, o lado negro do progresso e o lugar do homem no Universo. Perdurará neste planeta como um mestre da sátira e da imaginação.
