Nascida em 1943, numa família da classe trabalhadora britânica, Pat Barker (Patricia Mary W. Parker) estudou política internacional antes de se dedicar à literatura. É autora de vários romances (como Regeneration, The Eye in the Door, The Ghost Road, Border Crossing ou Another World) que têm sido distinguidos com os mais prestigiados galardões literários – entre eles, o Booker Prize e o Guardian Fiction Prize.
