SOBRE O AUTOR
DBC Pierre
Escritor australiano, de origem inglesa, DBC Pierre, de nome verdadeiro Peter Warren Finlay (DBC significa "Dirty But Clean", que em português se traduz por "sujo mas limpo"), nasceu em 1961, na Austrália. A sua infância e juventude foram divididas entre o México e os Estados Unidos da América. Apesar de manter a nacionalidade australiana, gosta de se considerar mexicano.
DBC Pierre cresceu no seio de uma abastada família. Quando tinha 16 anos, vivia sem dificuldades financeiras na Cidade do México, mas pouco tempo mais tarde, o governo mexicano nacionalizou a banca, o que deixou a sua família em dificuldades financeiras. Entrou, então, numa fase bastante problemática da sua existência e os nove anos seguintes foram vividos sob o consumo de drogas pesadas. DBC Pierre envolveu-se, também, em diversos negócios obscuros. Entretanto, aos 23 anos, saiu do México e foi viver para os Estados Unidos da América.
Durante a década de 90, viveu em reclusão para se redescobrir a si próprio, ao som de música de orquestra russa. Nessa época, trabalhou como designer gráfico e cartoonista.
No ano 2000, mudou-se para a Irlanda, onde, apesar de não ter formação literária, começou a trabalhar no seu romance de estreia, Vernon Little (Vernon Little, O Bode Expiatório). Trata-se de uma farsa sobre o século XXI que decorre no Texas. O protagonista, Vernon, é o alter-ego do próprio autor e torna-se no bode expiatório do brutal assassinato de 16 colegas de escola que ocorre na cidade de Martirio.
A 14 de outubro de 2003, DBC Pierre foi galardoado com o Booker Prize de Ficção, um dos mais prestigiados prémios literários de língua inglesa, pela escrita de Vernon Little. Foi ainda distinguido, nesse mesmo ano, com o prémio Whitbread para Primeiro Romance e com Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse destinado a obras cómicas.
O autor visitou Portugal em maio de 2005 para apresentar o seu romance na Feira do Livro de Lisboa.
