SOBRE O AUTOR
Patrick Leigh Fermor
Patrick Leigh Fermor nasceu em 1915, em Londres. aos dezoito anos decidiu ir a pé até Constantinopla, a partir de uma pequena cidade da Holanda. Foi essa viagem que deu origem ao livro Tempo de Dádivas (1977), que o consagrou como um dos grandes escritores de viagens do século XX. Escreveu ainda, entre outros, The Traveller’s Tree (1950), Tempo de Silêncio (1957), Mani (1958), Roumeli (1966) e Between the Woods and the Water (1986). Em 1939, Fermor alistou-se no exército irlandês e foi combater na Grécia, vivendo dois anos disfarçado de pastor nas montanhas de Creta, onde organizava a resistência à ocupação germânica, acabando por receber duas importantes condecorações militares britânicas. Os seus livros foram galardoados com vários prémios literários: Heinemann Foundation Prize for Literature; WH Smith Literary award; Lifetime achievement award (British Guild of travel Writers); Thomas Cook travel award; Duff Cooper Memorial Prize. Foi ainda distinguido como Cavaleiro da Ordem das artes e das Letras (França) e Comandante da Ordem da Fénix (Grécia). Em 2014, foi criada a Patrick Leigh Fermor Society. A partir de 1968, viveu entre a Grécia e Worcestershire, em Inglaterra, onde morreu em 2011, aos 96 anos.
