Hard Times is the story of two people beginning a new life as homesteaders in eastern Montana during the year 1929. One of them, Phil Caldwell, is committed to this adventure, the other, his wife Martha, is not. Nonetheless, they go from their relatively comfortable city life to the desolation and loneliness of a one room shack far from civilization. The prospects of bettering themselves via this free government land that was to be theirs quickly fades. Life during these times was hard enough for the childless couple but subject their relationship to the unrelenting elements of the Montana plains and something was bound to give. And give it did sending Phil and Martha down a tumultuous path of uncertainty and danger.

John T. Hansen

John Hansen é Professor Emérito, recentemente foi Presidente da Educação Médica em Neurobiologia e Anatomia e Reitor Associado de Admissões da Faculdade de Medicina e Odontologia da Universidade de Rochester. O Dr. Hansen recebeu o primeiro Prémio Presidencial de Diversidade anual da Universidade de Rochester em reconhecimento pelos seus 24 anos de compromisso e esforços dedicados para aumentar o recrutamento, a retenção e a graduação de candidatos à faculdade de medicina de diversas origens. O Dr. Hansen pesquisa sistemas dopaminérgicos periféricos e centrais, plasticidade neural e inflamação neural. Recebeu um NIH Research Career Development Award e recebeu vários prémios de ensino, incluindo o Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award, concedido anualmente pela AAMC a educadores médicos reconhecidos nacionalmente. O professor Hansen é autor de mais de 110 publicações de pesquisa, capítulos de livros e livros. Foi coeditor da revista Clinical Anatomy e o principal editor consultor do Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy (2-7ª edições). Continua a ser o autor do Netter's Anatomy Flash Cards, do Netter's Clinical Anatomy e do Netter's Anatomy Coloring Book.
