Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The matters there contained are of course familiar to 'all advanced scholars, and may be regarded as elementary. But average experience would prob ably confess that they have often been picked up later in life than they ought. That they should be known by all students who approach Aristophanes is undeniable; but it is equally nu deniable that many of them are commonly not then known. Had I been aware of any place accessible to the average student in which they were set forth with due brevity, this book would have been content with a reference thereto.
