Mary Oliver

Mary Oliver (1935 – 2019) foi uma poetisa americana cuja obra reflete uma profunda comunhão com o mundo natural.
Ela nasceu e cresceu em Maple Hills Heights, um subúrbio de Cleveland, Ohio. Refugiava-se de uma casa difícil nos bosques próximos, onde construía cabanas de paus e relva e escrevia poemas.
Mary Oliver alcançou o reconhecimento da crítica e obteve o seguimento de um amplo número de leitores, tendo a sua poesia ganhado diversos prémios, incluindo o Pulitzer.
Os seus poemas estão concentrados nas ocorrências tranquilas da natureza: beija-flores diligentes, garças e lagoas inertes. A sua criatividade foi estimulada pela natureza, e Mary Oliver, uma ávida caminhante, muitas vezes procurava inspiração a pé. Os seus poemas estão repletos de imagens das suas caminhadas diárias perto de casa.
