Catherine and Chaning Peake convinced Schell to let them breed seven mares to the stallion in 1941 and the next year the Peakes acquired Driftwood for $1,500.Driftwood offspring were known for their calm nature, athletic ability and excelled in the rodeo arena. Driftwood was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 2006.
