Abraham Lincoln

Foi o 16.º Presidente dos Estados Unidos da América e uma das figuras políticas mais influentes da era moderna. Nascido no Kentucky numa família humilde, praticamente autodidata, tornou-se advogado, dirigente do Partido Republicano e presidente durante a Guerra Civil Americana.
Defensor da preservação da União e opositor da escravatura, liderou o país no seu período mais dramático, proclamando a emancipação dos escravos e redefinindo o significado político da liberdade e da igualdade nos Estados Unidos.
Assassinado em 1865, poucos dias após o fim da guerra, permanece como um símbolo maior da República americana.
