Jean Racine

Jean Racine (1639-1699) foi poeta, dramaturgo e historiador. Teve uma ascensão meteórica e uma carreira brilhante. Em 1677 abandonou o teatro e foi nomeado historiógrafo do rei Luís XIV. A par de Pierre Corneille, Jean Racine é um dos mais importantes homens do teatro francês e europeu do século XVII e o expoente máximo da tragédia clássica francesa.
