George Robert Stowe Mead

G. R. S. Mead (1863-1933) foi um influente membro da Sociedade Teosófica. Para além de esoterista, era ainda escritor, editor e tradutor. Foi dele o esforço de tradução do manuscrito para a língua inglesa, a partir do qual se fez a tradução para português. Nas suas palavras: "Ao apresentar a tradução seguinte aos leitores de língua inglesa, devo afirmar que nunca me teria aventurado em tamanha empresa se algum especialista de copta houvesse tomado a seu cargo essa tarefa, ou se eu tivesse tido conhecimento de que tal tarefa iria ser realizada". Devido à importância do texto e da ausência de tradução, lançou-se com todo o vigor a tal tarefa.
