SOBRE O AUTOR

Eric Hobsbawm

Foi um historiador inglês, considerado um dos mais importantes no âmbito da historiografia contemporânea. Nasceu em Alexandria, no Egito, em 1917, e faleceu em outubro de 2012. Lecionou no Birkbeck College, em Londres, e na New School for Social Research, em Nova Iorque. Foi membro da Academia Britânica e da Academia Americana das Ciências e das Artes e agraciado com o grau de doutor honoris causa por diversas universidades. Destacou-se como um dos mais importantes historiadores contemporâneos e é autor de uma obra vasta sobre história e política. O seu livro A Era dos Extremos, lançado em 1994, tornou-se uma obra de referência sobre a história recente da humanidade. Além daquele e de Nacionalismo, a Editorial Presença publicou também A Era do Capital, A Era das Revoluções, A Era do Império 1875-1914, O Século XXI - Reflexões sobre o Futuro, em coautoria com Antonio Polito, e Globalização, Demografia e Terrorismo.
