Blue Öyster Cult

Blue Öyster Cult é uma banda de rock americana formada em 1967 em Long Island, Nova Iorque. A banda é conhecida por combinar elementos de hard rock, heavy metal, e rock psicadélico, com letras frequentemente inspiradas por temas de ficção científica, ocultismo, e mistério. Blue Öyster Cult foi uma das primeiras bandas a usar símbolos e mitologia em sua imagem, criando uma aura de misticismo em torno do seu trabalho.

A formação clássica da banda inclui Eric Bloom (vocais e guitarra), Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser (guitarra e vocais), Allen Lanier (teclados e guitarra), Joe Bouchard (baixo) e Albert Bouchard (bateria). Buck Dharma é especialmente conhecido pelo seu trabalho de guitarra, sendo responsável por muitos dos solos e riffs memoráveis da banda.

O álbum homónimo de estreia, Blue Öyster Cult (1972), apresentou o som único da banda, mas foi com o lançamento de Agents of Fortune (1976) que a banda alcançou o sucesso mainstream. Este álbum inclui o maior sucesso da banda, "(Don't Fear) The Reaper", uma música que se tornou um clássico do rock e é frequentemente tocada em rádios até hoje.
