SINOPSE
This study examines the genre of tragedy through the lens of one of its most curious manifestations: the martyr play. The author examines a broad corpus of seventeeth-century French plays including both male- and female-authored tragedy, showing that the genre should be integral to understanding tragedy in early modern France.
