Jess knows nothing about gypsies, but she does know they have horses. And Jess is pony mad. Secretly she visits horses in the field at the back of the gypsy site. One day, a gypsy boy, Mike, finds her there and gradually she gets to know his family. They are all friendly and welcoming - apart from Mike's dad who is suspicious of this 'gadji' girl.
