Tan Twan Eng nasceu em Penang, na Malásia (1972). O seu primeiro romance, The Gift of Rain, foi pré-selecionado para o Man Booker. O segundo, The Garden of Evening Mists, foi um grande bestseller, nomeado para o Man Booker, vencedor do Man Asia Literary Award e do Walter Scott Award for Historical Fiction. Foi adaptado para um filme premiado em 2019. Vive entre a Malásia e a África do Sul.
