ABOUT THE ARTIST

Circle Jerks

Circle Jerks are an American hardcore punk band formed in 1979 in Hermosa Beach, California. Founded by vocalist Keith Morris after his departure from Black Flag and guitarist Greg Hetson (future member of Bad Religion), the band quickly became one of the most influential of the first wave of hardcore punk, characterized by its explosive energy, acid humor and social criticism.

Their debut album, Group Sex (1980), is considered a classic of hardcore punk. With 14 tracks in just 15 minutes, the album captured the raw and fast-paced essence of the genre, with songs like "World Up My Ass" and "Live Fast Die Young" defining the irreverent and rebellious spirit of the band. This work established the Circle Jerks as a central name in the Los Angeles punk scene.

In the following years, albums such as Wild in the Streets (1982) and Golden Shower of Hits (1983) cemented the band's reputation, combining punk aggressiveness with satirical lyrics and a unique approach that made them stand out among their contemporaries. During this period, the Circle Jerks became central figures in the hardcore movement, performing alongside bands such as Black Flag, the Dead Kennedys, and Minor Threat.

After a hiatus in the '90s, Circle Jerks reunited several times for tours and released compilations that celebrated their legacy. The band remained a reference in punk rock, inspiring generations of musicians with its authenticity and its unpretentious approach to music.

With a career marked by intensity and irreverence, Circle Jerks continue to be a symbol of classic hardcore punk. Their music, charged with energy and social criticism, maintains relevance and resonates with fans old and new, assuring them a lasting place in punk rock history.
