ABOUT THE ARTIST

Liars

Liars is an experimental rock and art punk band formed in 2000 in Brooklyn, New York. Founded by Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross, the band quickly gained notoriety for their unpredictable and innovative approach, navigating a wide range of musical styles ranging from post-punk to noise, electronic and ambient. The constant sonic evolution and focus on abstract concepts have made Liars one of the most intriguing and versatile bands in the contemporary alternative scene.

Their debut album, They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top (2001), featured a visceral and danceable sound, blending post-punk and dance-punk influences with raw energy. The track "Mr. Your On Fire Mr." became one of the group's first highlights, heralding the provocative and experimental style that would mark their career.

On They Were Wrong, So We Drowned (2004), the band took a radical turn, exploring a more abstract and atmospheric sound, inspired by witchcraft myths. This album divided critics and fans alike, but solidified Liars' reputation as a band willing to defy expectations and explore new creative territories.

Subsequent works, such as Drum's Not Dead (2006), focused on rhythmic textures and experimental elements, while Liars (2007) and Sisterworld (2010) combined accessibility with artistic complexity. The album WIXIW (2012) delved into introspective electronic sounds, marking another reinvention for the group.

Since then, Angus Andrew has taken over the project as the only permanent member, maintaining the experimental essence of the band with albums such as TFCF (2017) and The Apple Drop (2021). Liars remains a singular creative force, defying convention and exploring new avenues with each release, while maintaining a special place at the heart of alternative and experimental music.
